Weekly Update! |
||||
Good evening Resident,
Once again with the weather soaring to tropical temperatures, our officers are back out and patrolling the streets. Time to find out what's been going on in the city centre.
Lets get to it!
What’s Been Happening
Arrests – A small but significant amount of arrests this week by our city centre officers, with five people in total being arrested. One arrest was made for an individual for theft from multiple stores within the city centre. Four others arrests were made in relation to the unfortunate incident in the early hours of Sunday morning whereby a young male lost his life. The details below are from a report published on the West Midlands Police website;
Two men have been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Wolverhampton. Joseph Wills Jr, 37, was charged overnight with the murder of Brad Thomas in Clarence Street last Sunday (5 July). He was also charged with possession of a blade. Joseph Wills Snr, 65, was also charged with assisting an offender. Both men were remanded to appear before magistrates in Wolverhampton today. The family of Mr Thomas, who was 27-years-old, paid tribute to their loved one, saying: "Brad was a loving son, father and brother and was one of a kind. "He will be missed by all his friends and family, our boy." A man and a woman who were also arrested in connection with our investigation have been bailed. We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around what happened and anyone who knows more can call 101 quoting log number 594 of 5 July. You can also speak to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111.
Community Engagement – Due an unforeseen circumstance our ‘Cuppa with a Copper’ session scheduled to take place at NEXT, St Johns Retail Park, had to be cancelled. Our PCSOs that day were attending a property that had its door broken in an arrest attempt and they needed to wait for it to be fixed by Wolverhampton Homes. Team 1 once again hosted a ‘Cuppa with a Coper’ session within the Costa Coffee inside the Mander Centre, they had a chance to speak to a few people regarding the new Public Space Protection Order. Finally, Team 2 spent an hour inside Central library at a crime prevention stand. They managed to speak to a few members of the community but it turned out not to be that busy and I'd imagine this was due to the hot weather once again.
Guardian Patrols – The main aim for these patrols is the reduction of public place violence within the city centre. Our patrols were carried out as usual with the support of our specialised Guardian Task Force heading out into the busy streets of Wolverhampton.
Night-Time Economy – No NTE shifts for my team this week but the city centres Team 3 were the first to arrive in the location of the fatal stabbing on Clarence Street. All officers involved are being supported as necessary as this can have a big effect on not only the family and friends of the victim, but also our officers in attendance.
Other News - Officers were on hand to assist with a large fire this week just outside of the city centre at Jones Skips, their duties mainly comprising of scene watch and traffic control. Throughout Sunday officers spent the day on Clarence Street at the location of the Murder, controlling the scene, allowing forensics officers and our Operational Support Unit to complete the necessary investigations and searches. Monday saw early morning arrest attempts for our most prolific offenders, and Tuesday our officers were out in plain clothes monitoring the city centre for shoplifting and theft from person offences.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope you look forward to the next one!
